Social distancing has changed our lives over the past few weeks. As food lovers, it has impacted us and the hospitality industry in unprecedented ways. Supporting local restaurants has never been more important! All it takes to do your part is place an order and eat! Here’s some solid options around Suffolk county for all your takeout + delivery needs. Don’t forget to follow me on Instagram for more: @TheGrubfather
Right Coast Taqueria [Deer Park]
This taco, burrito, & pupusa cranking spot is a pro with takeout and delivery. Case in point: Their TACO BOXES, which comes stocked with everything you need for a stay at home, no mess taco night. $35 for a family box, $60 for the big box. Not to mention margaritas bucket… to go! Did I mention $5 BURRITOS after 8pm? Right Coast is a move.
Mario’s Pizzeria [Commack, East Northport, Melville]
Known for both their classic pizza menu as well as internet-sensation creations… Mario’s is the real deal. They have locations in Commack, East Northport, and Melville. My suggestion? Their giant buffalo chicken roll, it’s a show-stopper that could easily feed any household. Or the garlic knot crusted pizza, the hybrid you never knew you needed.
Hometown Heroes [West Islip]
The name says it all on this one. This legendary hero shop in West Islip dishes out both classics and new-age, GRUB creations. Think shredded beef wrapped up with mac and cheese in the JJ WRAP or fresh chicken cutlets sliced up, topped with mac and stuffed in a soft hero for the MAC ATTACK. Catch some outdoor action at one of the nearby beaches or waterfronts if you’re looking for an excuse to eat while doing a social-distance appropriate experience.
New Wave Burrito Bar [Huntington]
Gigantic burritos, tacos, and cool spins on margaritas make this Huntington spot standout. Fortunately for us, they’re bringing their wavy vibes to curbside takeout and delivery. Grab the insane burrito we created together called The Grubfather or another one of my favorites, The Big Wave. Tip: Right now they’re including fresh guacamole, roasted tomato salsa, and green chile queso with chips alongside every purchase of four burritos.
Stony Brook Village [Stony Brook]
The nearby natural scenery makes a visit here well worth it. Nature and country living come alive in this quiet nook of the North Shore. Swing by the village and grab some of the area’s hard hitting brunch spots: Robinson’s Tea Room, Sweet Mama’s, Crazy Beans, and Fratelli’s before taking a stroll through Avalon Park, the lakeside or the quaint roads along the way. If you seek a fantastic burger, go to Pentimento’s. This village is a great place to catch a breath of fresh air while socially distancing!
It’s always a banging mash up when you have stacked burgers and great drinks set up with a rock and roll spirit. Vauxhall’s handhelds get the job done. They just launched ‘The Vaux Big Box’ for take-out & delivery which comes loaded with a giant pretzel, mac + cheese, 4 pulled pork empanadas, 4 OG burgers, 4 sides of fries at $85. You can see all of their specials here. Don’t count out their fried chicken sandwich, either!
I love when a spot justifies the reason they have a cult following and Robke’s always hits the mark. Back when dining in was a thing (sad to say that isn’t it?) Robke’s was consistently slammed. Takeout gives you a chance to grab all that good food and enjoy it without the buzz of a poppin’ dining room. They’re running a package that includes three half trays of salad, pasta, and entrees. You can see all the details of that here.
Sangria 71 [Commack]
It may be a little while before you get to Spain, but Sangria 71 will ease that disappointment with delicious paella and house-made sangria. Did I mention everything on their menu is 20% off?
Luigi’s Pizzeria [East Setauket]
Luigi’s of East Setauket takes the Long Island pizzeria experience up a few notches with both quality pizza and viral sensations. Feed the family with their garlic knot crusted pie, family sized pasta-stuffed-calzones, or even a giant buffalo chicken roll.
SoBol [Various locations]
There is something about vibrant acai bowls and smoothies that lift the spirit. Plus, the nutritional benefits here are much needed. Combine that with natural sweetness and an operation rooted in local Long Island and you’ve got a take-out and delivery home-run. My go to is always a traditional bowl loaded up with peanut butter. Yum!
One of my ultimate go-to spots on Long Island, especially as a sushi lover. The Sushi for Two or Three is perfect if you’re looking for a feast. However, do yourself a favor and try the following: The Crazy Salmon Roll, Crazy Tuna Roll, Spicy Tuna Sandwich (I usually get it salmon), Yaki Udon Noodles, American Dream Roll, and the sushi is always fresh! They usually don’t deliver so I’m taking advantage of this while it lasts!
Soul Brew [St. James, Huntington]
Coffee, damn good sandwiches, and some really great tater tots await you here at Soul Brew’s two locations. They’re a great local business to support for your morning coffee and if you’re in need of feeding your soul, their food gets the job done. This one is in my weekly rotation – online ordering available through Grubhub.
Mannino’s is a class act and under any other circumstances I would insist you go in and have a meal there. Their menu is a dreamy blend of authentic Italian and modern American. Regarded as one of this area’s top dine-in restaurants, take advantage of the fact that all orders are 20% off. My favorites include the Rigatoni alla Vodka, Penne Supreme, Cowboy Steak Pittsburgh style, and Pollo Mannino.
Iron Poke [Stony Brook]
Iron Poke in Stony Brook makes the process very easy with a build your own bowl option or their signature poke bowl combos. I usually load up on their fresh and spicy salmon and crab with avocado, crunchy garlic and scallion. This fast-casual Hawaiian food is perfect for curbside takeout, unfortunately there is no delivery at this time.
MB Ramen [Huntington]
Warm, wholesome soup and savory noodles are exactly what you need to truck through these weary times. MB Ramen in Huntington will satisfy every noodle craving you’re having. My favorite? Their namesake ramen bowl, the MB RAMEN BOWL as well as their Dan Dan Noodles.
Brownstones Coffee [East Northport, Amityville, West Islip]
I’m a believer that brunch is best outside the house. Brownstones Coffee makes it easy for still getting that fix on takeout and delivery. I love their pancakes, burgers, toast and even sandwiches. It’s overall a great spot and with a variety of locations around the East side of the island, it’s convenient too!
Island Empanada [Medford, Lake Ronkonkoma, Rocky Point]
This spot specializes in that savory snack that hits every spot under the sun: EMPANADAS! The best part? They have a ton of flavors and a variety of flavors. I love their beef and cheese but there combo boxes make it easy to try all of them. They currently have a 15% discount rolling across the board when you order direct from one of their stores.
